Nominations Spiel Des Jahres 2016 announced

The comity behind the "Spiel Des Jahres" prizes or simply game of the year have announced their nominations for 2016. Spiel Des Jahres is the most known award in the board game world, a lot of publishers put a lot of effort in winning this award because this adds a lot of worth to their games. The awards are divided into three categories: the best game of the year (Spiel Des Jahres), the best game for children (Kinderspiel Des Jahres) and the best game for connoisseurs (Kennerspiel Des Jahres).

The nominations for the main category, Spiel Des Jahres, are fairly diverse. For frequent board game players, it won't be a surprise that Codenames by White Goblin Games is the first nominee, The game just came on the market last year and it is already one of the most known and most played in Europe. The second nomination might be a bit less know because it was only just released and is currently only available in German, Imhotep is a great strategy game for the whole family. The last nomination is Karuba, this tile-laying game has players placing their tiles on their own board racing to get the prices and collect the most gems.

The category Kinderspiel Des Jahres holds fewer surprises compared to other years. Leo Muss zum Friseur is a test your luck game that has already received the Austrian price for the best children's game in 2015. Stone age junior is the second nominee, this is the kids version of the game Stone Age from 2008. The last nominee is the game Mmm!, a great cooperative game that introduces children to collaborative games.

As the last category, there is the Kennerspiel Des Jahres, here we find the games for the real board game connaisseurs. The nominations aren't big surprises for everyone who follows the board game world. These are the most played games in the last year. Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 and T.I.M.E. Stories are already in the top 30 games of all time on Board Game Geek. The third nomination is maybe a bit lesser known but is really a recommendation. Isle of Skye: From Chieftain to King is a very strategic tile laying game that has varying rules on how to score points, making it a game with great replay value!
