New expansion announced for Stonemaier Games' Scythe

Stonemaier Games announced last week that they are making a new expansion for their award winning game, Scythe, that has been released last year. The name of the expansion will be The Wind Gambit and it will contain two new modules that can be added to the base game.

Scythe is a worker placement / area control where players try to collect and gain the most wealth (aka coins). The game takes place in an alternate universe in 1920 Europe. The war is just over, but the population is still controlled by mechs that try and keep the peace.

This new expansion, Scythe: The Wind Gambit adds two new modules to this game:

The airship is a new unit that is added to each of the factions. This miniature can transport itself over the gameboard like any other unit, except it can fly over rivers and stay on lake tiles. This is a new way to reach spaces that were previously too far of to get to.

Resolution tiles introduce alternative ways to trigger the end game. Every playthrough one tile is chosen from the available tiles that will add another way to end the game. This way, you could end the game without getting six stars and make it harder for other players to see it coming.

Next to these additions to the base game, Stonemaier Games is also collaborating with box designers to create a box that will be big enough to place Scythe and all it's expansions inside. This will make it much easier to transport. The box will be twice as deep as the normal box.

The release for this game is not in the immediate future. The current date is set to the last quarter of 2017 at Spiel in Essen. Keep an eye on this website to find the game when it is available.
