Second KeyForge series announced: KeyForge Age of Ascension

KeyForge is a card game that was released last year by Fantasy Flight Games and has since earned a lot of praising comments in the board gaming world. The game let's two players duel in a battle to be the first to forge three keys that unlock the Crucible's hidden Vaults and win the game. Yesterday, the publisher has announced the second series of cards in this family with the name: KeyForge Age of Ascension.

In KeyForge, you use your different cards (creatures, artifacts, upgrade, and actions) to get enough "amber". This can be done by either collecting it with your creatures or stealing them from the other player. When you have six amber at the start of your turn, you can choose to forge one of three keys needed to win the game. The first player who collected these three keys is the winner of the duel.

This game was the first in a series the publisher called "Unique games". This means that every box sold in these games is completely unique. There is no other box that contains the same combination as cards like the one you own. Each new box will give you a new way to play the game and will have a unique play experience. The first generation of KeyForge sets had a pool of 370 cards from which each deck contained 37.

Yesterday, Fantasy Flight Games announced the second "generation" of KeyForge decks: KeyForge Age of Ascension. Just like its predecessor this generation will be sold as a starter set and as separate decks. The starter set is a box containing two decks as well as all components needed to start a duel such as damage tokens, amber pieces, key tokens, ... The new series of cards will expand the pool of cards with another 370 cards which will again increase the available decks exponentially. The new decks will be just as powerful as other decks and so it will be possible to use decks of different series in the same game.

The new KeyForge Age of Ascension decks will be available in stores starting in the second quarter of 2019.
