In Shafausa, ogni giocatore rappresenta una tribù elvetica venuta a proporre un nuovo sistema monetario basato sullo scambio di risorse. Ogni turno i giocatori possono fare acquisti (edifici, miniere, magazzini) e scambiare valuta - e attraverso queste transazioni influenzare il mercato azionario per la prosperità della loro regione. Ogni giocatore possiede tre carte Potere con azioni speciali, ma può usarne solo una durante la partita, perché le altre due vengono rimosse dal gioco.
