A Game of Thrones Catan: Brotherhood of the Watch

Fantasy Flight Games announced a new board game in the world of Westeros, A Game of Thrones Catan: Brotherhood of the Watch.  This stand-alone game takes the gathering of resources and trading from the Catan series but brings some nice twists from the Song of Ice and Fire books by George R. R. Martin.

The game brings with it the hexagonal tiles we know from the Catán games series, but in this version they contain special resources from The Gift that are required to supply the Knights of the Night's Watch and to build their defenses. Players build roads, settlements and recruit knights to patrol all of these. Besides these knights, each player also receives a hero from the books (such as Jeor Mormont, Bowen Marsh, Samwell Tarly, of Othell Yarwyck) that they can use to defend their properties and most importantly, the wall.

Defending the wall is not without its dangers, at any moment in the game the Wildlings can become active and breach the wall. From this moment on players will have to find a balance in gathering resources on the different tiles and using these resources to hire guardians that will defend their properties against these creatures.

Just like the other games in this series, the game ends when one of the players reaches 10 points. However, there is an exception to this rule, if the Wildlings are able to breach the wall for the third time, the game ends instantly and the player that has the most guardians at that point wins the game. This extra rule ensures that players try to achieve different goals in the game.

A Game of Thrones Catan: Brotherhood of the Watch will be available in stores in the fourth quarter of 2017. Keep an eye on this website for further updates.
